Yoga is not just a fitness regime

Over a past few decades, a very common misunderstanding has taken root in your minds of people. There is a belief that Yoga, is all about exercise and fitness. An added misconception is that Asanas or Yogasanas are just poses and body movements that are complex to do but make the body supple.

Of course, postures and asana do make the body supple. Just like how you stretch and other sorts of body movements do. But the poses are more of a fitness trick.

Yoga was first introduced by the Indians in the 19th century. As expected, it reached heights. But there began a commercialization of yoga, in order to make it more alluring to the public. Yoga went from being an art to a training session.

This is something that you should understand and it’s extremely dangerous. Yoga is not something that must be tried with the wrong intentions and ideas. It has its own consequences.

The five basic principles of Yoga;

  • Asana (Postures)
  • Pranayama ( breathing control)
  • Shavasana (Relaxation)
  • Sattvic (Right diet)
  • Dhyana (Meditation)

It’s only when these five basic principles are followed that one can himself a yoga practitioner. When a person performs yoga, he himself surrenders to the universe and becomes one with the universal energy. It’s a very powerful source of life and must not be lightly treated

The benefits of Yoga

Yoga has physical benefits, is something which is very common knowledge. But the real power of yoga is seen in its advantages on the mental and other aspects of human life.

  • Helps you focus
  • Improves balance
  • Relaxes muscles
